On the occasion of the 36th National Day of Iran, February 11, Viet Nam News presents an article by Hossein Alvandi Behineh, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
February 11 marks the 36th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. After more than 100 years, the Iranian people's Islamic movement entered a new phase on February 11, 1979 through the establishment of the Islamic Republic system based on the will, religious and cultural values of the nation. Independence, freedom and Islamic Republic are the most highly valued pillars of the revolution.
Under the leadership of Hazrat Ayatollah Khamenei, the country is still attached to the idea of religious democracy. It maintains its independence and the other fundamental pillars of the revolution.
Since the 2013 presidential election, significant progress has been made, which has strengthened national unity, boosted the economy and heightened the country's role in the international arena.
President Rohani has a pragmatic and realistic approach to foreign policy. His Government has spared no efforts in consolidating relations with the rest of the world, especially regional, neighbouring and Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries.
Iran adheres to the principles of independence, mutual respect, equality, detente, regional integration, peace, stability, security and justice. It also advocates for the promotion of international understanding through dialogue, and fighting the extremism and radicalism that threatens our neighbors and the world.
The new Government's top priority has been participating in constructive interactions aiming to settle the nuclear issue. Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons. One of the first supporters of a WMD-free Middle East and a member of the Treat on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Iran believes that nuclear weapons do not strengthen national security.
That's why Iran, with its constructive interactions and win-win approaches to international conflict, is committed to a joint plan of action with Group 5+1 to ensure the peacefulness of its nuclear program and all sanctions against the country to be lifted. It is believed that a comprehensive agreement is possible even earlier than scheduled through constructive interaction and commitment from both sides.
Iran, heir to an ancient civilisation, possesses a rich cultural identity and unique customs. With a variety of historical and natural attractions, a long list of recognised World Heritages, diversity of traditions and hospitality, Iran is heaven for tourists. It is also one of the safest and most secure countries in the region and the world.
Iran and Viet Nam's 41-year-old positive political relationship has grown immensely. The two countries have maintained sound co-ordination in international affairs. Common interests and viewpoints, as well as promising political, economic and cultural potential have increased the possibility of more co-operation on the horizon.
Numerous of visits have been made by two countries' leaders to each other's countries. The honourable Deputy Prime Minister of Viet Nam Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited Iran in October 2014. This latest visit served as a springboard to promote co-operative ties.
Agreements signed during the visit and previous deals have provided a proper framework for boosting bilateral relations in all fields, including trade and science.
It seems that great strides will be made soon, with the increase in exchange of high-ranking political and trade delegations, as well as tourism exchanges.
We hope to witness significant development in bilateral relations in all fields by increasing decisive support from the private sectors and leaders of Iran and Viet Nam.
The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ha Noi will make every effort to materialize the will of the leaders and people of Iran and Viet Nam on comprehensive development of relations.
As we embrace the coming New Year celebrations, I look forward to further and deeper co-operation and friendship between our two countries, and to using the relationship and friendship for the betterment of all. — VNS
