HA NOI (VNS)– A fashion show will be held by the embassy of Italy in co-ordination with Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi hotel, featuring designs inspired by Italian architecture.

The show, entitled Italian Architectural Style in Fashion, introduces a collection designed by Vietnamese Minh Hanh.

The 80-design collection will be paraded by top Vietnamese models, Italian expatriates in Viet Nam and Lorenzo Angeloni, Italian ambassador to Viet Nam.

"The ambassador is very Italian in style," said designer Minh Hanh at the press conference held in Ha Noi yesterday.

Hanh also introduced three designs at the press conference. They were inspired by the Colosseum amphitheatre, Tower of Pisa and Trevi Fountain.

The designer uses new print technology which makes her collections vivid with images of Italian architecture, plus the movement of the models.

The technology was not new in the world, said the designer who didn't want to admit to being the first designer to use the print technology in Viet Nam.

The printing technique enabled Hanh to use the Colosseum and Tower of Pisa in her collection so they did not look like concrete buildings.

Before printing directly on to the material, designs are printed on paper first, then the material, said Hanh, explaining that the technique enabled the designer to express sophisticated detail.

Hanh was invited by the Italian embassy as one of the leading Vietnamese designers to use Italian ancient architectures as an inspiration to design the collection and to mark fashion co-operation between Viet Nam and Italy.

"Italian architectural style in fashion is really a challenge for me because the beauty of Italian architecture has been defined over hundreds of years," said the designer. "I had to do lots of research because it's a really big theme."

Hanh spent two months combining Italian classic architecture and Vietnamese traditional material. The collection will also feature Baroque and Gothic architectures.

Ambassador Angeloni said: "A designer likes to discover new material, new colour and new combinations. Through Minh Hanh's designs I see my Italian country as more beautiful."

At the press conference, Angeloni expressed his thanks to Hanh.

"The fashion show will help Vietnamese and Italians understand and enjoy the beauty of the two nations," he said.
