HA NOI (VNS) — The Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties of Japan will develop new techniques to preserve valuable wooden relics in the Thang Long Imperial Citadel.

The institute will cooperate with Kyoto University and other research institutes to develop new chemicals to conserve the relics, provided that they are suitable with Viet Nam's weather conditions.

This month, the Nara Institute and Kyoto University expect to carry out a survey on the condition of the artefacts and their storehouses in Vietnamese museums.

The Nara Institute and partners will also open a head office at Viet Nam Forestry University to study properties of ancient trees, evaluate the effectiveness of preservatives and examine timber drying methods.

Thousands of any rare relics such as pillars, boats and lacquer paintings were unearthed in the world heritage Thang Long Imperial Citadel, former name of Ha Noi. — VNS
