HÀ NỘI (VNS) — Japanese composer Oki Masao will present his special work, Symphony No.6, at the Japan–Viet Nam Friendship Concert that will be held on November 14 at Ha Noi Opera House.

Symphony No.6 is also known as Ten Volunteer Girls of Dong Loc Junction.

The symphony was inspired by the true story of "10 young unmarried girls, aged 17 to 22, who helped with the logistics work at Dong Loc, a strategic T-junction road that heavily bombed by American forces during the war in Việt Nam". The junction is now part of Loc Commune in Ha Tinh Province's Can Loc District.

All 10 girls were reportedly killed when a bomb fell close to the mouth of the tunnel where they were hiding. Their stories have been adapted in a feature film and the place they were buried is now a shrine.

Speaking about his work, Masao said the courage and sacrifice of 10 war heroines moved him deeply, and therefore, Symphony No.6 was his tribute and an expression of his sympathy for them.

The concert will also feature masterpieces of well–known Vietnamese and Japanese composers, such as The Song of Loyalty rhapsody by Hoang Duong, the Changing Season symphony by Trong Dai, Love is a Many Splendored Thing by Sammy Fain, and Folkloric Dance Suite for Orchestra written by Wada Kaoru for The Viet Nam National Symphony Orchestra.

The music will be led by Conductor Honna Testuji and violinist Bui Cong Duy. VNS
