HA NOI (VNS)– Celebrated jazz artist Quyen Van Minh will host a special performance of Vietnamese jazz at the Ha Noi Opera House tonight.
The night is to commemorate late artist Hoang Xuan Vuong, one of the two leading trumpeters in Ha Noi.
People's Artist Quang Tho will perform Sambario (Italy), Mai Lan with Anh Bang's Nhung Tam Hon Co Don (Lonely Souls) and Long Me Tua Dat Troi (Mother's Heart is Big as Earth and Sky).
Meritorious artist Thanh Vinh sings Phu Quang's Dieu Gian Di (Simple Things), singer Dieu Thuy with Ngo Thuy Mien's Mua Thu Cho Em (Autumn for You) and All For Love.
"I always seek for and foster young talents. So tonight, the 9-year-old Minh Phu will play solo Mot Coi Di Ve (A Realm of Return) by late composer Trinh Cong Son. Phu is one of my small students. He can play on stage after just eight months of training," said Minh.
The night will also feature a solo performance by Hawaiian guitarist Huy Thong through two music pieces Tinh Nghe Sy (Artists' Love) and La Paloma. One of the interesting moments for audience as Minh said would be performance by famous musician Phu Quang who will play piano and sing two songs of his own.
Vuong and Minh and late Meritorious Artist Quoc Truong played music for 40 years together in the Big Band – the jazz band Minh founded. In February last year, Minh also organised a jazz night to commemorate Truong.
Minh said he planned to organise a jazz show early next year to commemorate predecessor saxophonists, which would gather all saxophonists.
"I will play the sax till I die," said the eminent jazz artist.
The liveshow starts at 8pm at Ha Noi Opera House, 1 Trang Tien St. – VNS
