Karate fighters in Brunei to defend regional top position

 HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam's fighters have left for Brunei to take part in the Southeast Asian Karate Championships 2025.

This year tournament will hold competitions for senior U21 and junior athletes in both kata (performance) and kumite (combat) disciplines.

Taking part are Asian champions Hoàng Thị Mỹ Tâm, Nguyễn Thị Ngoan, Đinh Thị Hương, Nguyễn Thị Diệu Ly and Chu Văn Đức in the fighting category and Nguyễn Thị Phương, Lưu Thị Thu Uyên and Nguyễn Ngọc Trâm in the performance.

The current regional reigning champions are hoping to defend their titles at the tournament.

Nearly 500 athletes from 11 countries will compete from June 14 to 19 at the Hassanal Bolkiah Sport Complex, Berakas.

Last year, Việt Nam topped the medal tally with 21 gold, 21 silver and 32 bronze medals. — VNS
