HA NOI (VNS) — FIDE master Nguyen Anh Khoi is leading in the U12 category at the Asian Youth Chess Championship which is ongoing in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Khoi, the former world U10 champion, won all four rounds.
Yakubboev Nodirbek of the host country came second with 3.5 points, followed by Ram Aravind of India, with 3 points.
In the next round, Khoi will play Nodirbek, while Aravind meets Katenov Aibek of Kazakhstan.
Viet Nam have six other masters competing in the tournament but they have not reached the top three ranks.
The Asian championships have attracted competitors from 13 countries and territories. They are competing in four age groups each in the open and girls' events.
The final rounds are scheduled to be held on June 29. — VNS
