HCM CITY (VNS) — HCM City's Tran Duy Khoi broke a national record and won a gold medal in the National Short-Course Swimming and Finswimming Championships yesterday.
Khoi, 18, swam the men's 100m backstroke in 55.41 seconds, faster than previous record (55.86sec) set by Hoang Quy Phuoc of Da Nang in 2013.
Khoi, from HCM City, and his teammates also won gold in the men's 400m freestyle relay.
Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen, another HCM City athelte, finished first in the women's 50m breaststroke in 33.74sec, and in the 800m freestyle relay later.
Le Thi My Thao bagged the only gold medal for Binh Phuoc in the day as she finished first in the women's 200m butterfly in 2min 18.21sec.
Duong Thi Thom of Quang Ninh also swam in 1min 4.40sec for gold medal in the women's 100m backstroke.
Huynh The Vi nabbed a gold medal for HCM City when he finished the men's 100m breaststroke in 1min 3.65sec.
HCM City lead the medal tally with five gold, one silver and two bronze, ahead of Long An, which bagged one gold, two silvers and two bronzes. Binh Phuoc earned one gold medal. — VNS
