HCM CITY (VNS) — In a rare showing, the winners of Voice Kids Viet Nam 2013, Nguyen Quang Anh and Phuong My Chi, defeated older singers to win the Mai Vang (Golden Ochna) Awards.
At the awards ceremony on Saturday night in HCM City, Chi defeated singers Thanh Thuy and Dam Vinh Hung to be awarded the "Folk Music Singer" title, whereas her peer Anh was awarded first place in the "Male Pop Singer" category.
Launched in 1991, the Golden Ochna awards, voted by Nguoi Lao Dong (The Labourer) newspaper readers, recognise artists who make contributions to the nation's cultural and arts activities.
The Awards 2014 also presented prizes to individuals, bands, works and programmes based upon their popularity. Of note, awards were presented to the song Tinh Ve Noi Dau (Where Is Love Gone) by Vietnamese-Australian musician and singer Thanh Bui, the play Bong Hong Cai Ao (Rose Pinned on Shirt), movie Tim Chong Cho Vo Toi (Seeking Husband for My Wife), and The Voice Kids 2013 reality show. — VNS
