THUA THIEN HUE (VNS) — More than 900 kids from 90 teams from schools in Huong Tra Town will compete in a football festival on Sunday.

The event organiser, Football for All in Viet Nam, a Norwegian funded community football project, said it's a football fun day to promote gender equality on Vietnamese Women's Day (October 20^th).

The football festival, entitled ‘gender equality in football', will see teams comprised of three girls and two boys competing in five-a-side matches on 16 football pitches.

All captains must be girls, and goals may only be scored by girls and there is no final or second or third-place playoffs.

The organizing committee also hosts four life-skill camps for kids with fun ball games, life-skills for girls, technical practice with ball and young leadership as well as cultural performance.

Former national women's football team player Do Thi Ngoc Cham, who is the coach of Ha Noi women's team, German football ambassador, Monika Staab, and New Zealand Football ambassador Michele Cox will take part in the event .

FFAV's community football aims to develop children's non-competitive grassroots football in primary and secondary schools with a special focus on marginalised groups such as people with disabilities, people with ethnic backgrounds and people with HIV/AIDS.

The community football programme has 171 football clubs with 17,468 players aged from 6-15, half of whom are girls, and more than 5,000 people have been trained as coaches, leaders and referees in the country. — VNS
