Kien Giang chase maiden win

Languishing at the bottom of the table, Kien Long Bank Kien Giang see their game today as a great chance to notch their first win of the V-League season when they host seventh-placed Vissai Ninh Binh.

HCM CITY (VNS)— Languishing at the bottom of the table, Kien Long Bank Kien Giang see their game today as a great chance to notch their first win of the V-League season when they host seventh-placed Vissai Ninh Binh.

Kien Giang have lost all the three matches they have played so far and coach Lai Hong Van and his players say they are focused on beating Nguyen Van Sy's team and getting full points.

Van cited playing against strong opponents in away games as the main reason for Kien Giang's disappointing run this season.

Kien Giang had to play two title contenders in the two first rounds - SHB Da Nang, the defending champs, and Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA). It lost its third match to Hai Phong.

After a dramatically thrilling draw with SLNA at home last week, Ha Noi T&T are predicted to have a tough trip to Thanh Hoa, who seem to know how to turn the home advantage, big crowds and avid fans into victories.

Binh Duong, who have been experiencing the worst start to a season in the club's history, are hoping for a turnaround as the two-time champions visit Hoang Anh Gia Lai, who are in eighth place with four points.

Binh Duong now sit second from the bottom of the table without any point, scoring only two goals and conceding eight.

Dong Tam Long An stand a good chance to improve their standing after this round as they take on Dong Nai tomorrow as favourites.

After disappointing results at the Asian Football Confederation Cup or AFC Cup, V-League holders Da Nang and National Cup holders Xuan Thanh Sai Gon Cement will return to league action with different prospects.

Da Nang are likely to increase their points after their trip to Hai Phong while Xuan Thanh will find it far more difficult to leave SLNA's Vinh Stadium with a point in their pockets. — VNS
