Kim wins stage, stays in yellow

HA NOI (VNS)— Yellow jersey holder Kim Youri yesterday won the fourth stage of the An Giang Television Cup's International Women's Cycling Tournament, bringing her total stage wins to two.

Averaging a speed of 41.715kph, the South Korean completed the race's 97km fourth stage, between HCM City and Ben Tre Province, in 2hr 19.31min.

Kim, with the help of teammate Namkung Soyoung, broke out of a pack of cyclists to grab the win at the finish line.

Tran Thi Phuong Trang took second place and Pham Thi Thuy Lien from the Domesco Dong Thap Pharmacy team took third.

At 7:05:20, Kim's win strengthened her overall race lead by 14sec over her teammate and second ranked Namkung Soyoung.

Second stage winner Phan Thi Lieu and third stage winner Vo Thi Phuong Phi, both 20sec behind the race's leader, share third place.

Kim also took the race's green jersey for best athlete with 60 points. Namkung fell to second with 44 points and Phi to third with 33.

In team rankings, the race's three top teams shared a finishing time of 21:17.30. The squad from Seoul secured first place, having the best time over four stages. Japan and Binh Duong took second and third, respectively.

Today, cyclists will complete the fifth and longest stage of the race at 104km. The race will conclude tomorrow with sixth and final stage.

Organisers have allotted a total of VND200 million (US$9,500) in prize money to the race, with VND25 million going the winner. — VNS
