HA NOI (VNS) — Long-distance runner Nguyen Van Lai won his second track and field gold medal at the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar, finishing first in the men's 10,000m event this morning.
Lai applied the same strategy that helped him win a gold medal in the men's 5,000m event on Tuesday. He remained close behind the leader for much of the race, before speeding up and overtaking him on the final lap.
Lai's strategy paid off as he completed the race with a time of 29:44.82 to take the gold medal. Thailand's Boonthung Srisung came in second at 29:46.61 and Indonesia's Agus Prayogo finished third with 30:25.33.
Lai's gold medal is the first for Viet Nam in the ninth day of the Games and helps Viet Nam consolidate its second place position with 55 gold medals, 52 silvers and 49 bronze medals.— VNS
