THUA THIEN – HUE (VNS) — Local authorities in the central Thua Thien - Hue Province's Lang Co Town organised a suite of entertaining activities to celebrate five years since the Lang Co Bay was voted as one of the world's most beautiful bays over the weekend.
Activities included a food fair, beach football and volleyball tournaments, kite flying, a photo exhibition, a boat race, and a host of traditional games.
According to local authorities, the vote has catapulted the town from a quiet area to a tourism hotspot, and helped attract investment in infrastructure for the hospitality industry.
The town now boasts a thriving collection of restaurants and eateries and 53 resorts and hotels offering 1,200 rooms, including the US$875 million Laguna Lang Co resort complex. It has also seen construction of a large $102 million resort project.
Tourism revenues have shot up by 25 per cent to 30 per cent each year, which has transformed the town. Lang Co now welcomes around 95,000 visitors per year.
Authorities of Thua Thien - Hue Province have also recently licenced 16 ecotourism projects that will occupy 350ha around the bay and increase utilisation of the area.
Located nearby, the National Highway 1A now provides convenient access to the beach and sea areas. It is 60km from Hue City and about 10km far from Da Nang City. The bay is also said to attract greater development across a wide range of tourism sectors. — VNS
