HA NOI – (VNS) A new chapter in Viet Nam's library development started today, when a two-day course on library management and leadership skills kicked off at the country's National Library.

Hosted by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, the training course aims to build on the progress made in recent years and lay foundations for the future.

Under the title "Leadership Development for Executive Board Members and Aspiring Leaders of Vietnamese Library Association", the course's foreign experts will focus on training candidates in planning association activities, establishing and managing strategic partnership between associations worldwide, as well as improving library standards, said National Library Association vice chairman Phan Thi Kim Dung at the opening ceremony.

Dung said up to 20 select candidates participating in the course, who are leaders and executive members of 63 provinces and cities, are expected to transfer the knowledge gained to their colleagues.

Dung said the Viet Nam Library Association, through organising the course, will improve its understanding of IFLA, its roles, programmes and activities.

She added that members of the Association will continue to have access to the IFLA's training courses from now on. - VNS
