HA NOI (VNS) — Chess Grandmaster Le Quang Liem drew with American Aleksandr Shimanov in the SPICE Cup Open's seventh round at the Crowne Plaza in Missouri, the United States, this morning (October 22).

Number one seed Liem has gained 5.5 points after three draws and four wins to rank second in the tournament. Shimanov, also with 5.5 points, went into the game with the first rank, based on an auxiliary index.

Earlier, Liem, with an Elo rating of 2697, tied with American Chandra Akshat (Elo 2506) after 46 moves in the sixth round.

The US$15,000 tournament, being sponsored by Webster University and the Susan Polgar Foundation, is the highest rated international invitational tournament in the United States.

Liem was the runner-up at the Millionaire Chess Tournament that ended on October 13 in Las Vegas and was awarded US$50,000. — VNS
