HA NOI (VNS) — Vietnamese grandmaster Le Quang Liem played a key role in helping Webster University win the President's Cup on Sunday in New York, United States.
This was the third time for the university and second time for Liem to triumph in a row at the annual tournament.
The President's Cup, which was previously named the Final Four of College Chess, lures the strongest teams of the Pan-American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship.
The three other competing teams were from the University of Texas, the Texas Tech University and the University of Maryland.
At the March 27-29 event, all three matches were won and topped at the tournament.
This was Liem's third title within a month, as he also won gold medals during the World Cup's Zone 3.3 qualifying round and the International HD Bank chess tournament in HCM City earlier this month. — VNS
