HA NOI (VNS) — Le Quang Liem finished second at the Millionaire Chess Open, which ended in Las Vegas, the United States, last night (Ha Noi time).
The Vietnamese grandmaster lost 1.5-0.5 to world number two Hikaru Nakamura of the host nation after two rapid chess matches in the final round.
They had drawn with each other in their first match in the qualifying round.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Liem beat Alex Lenderman of the United States, while Nakamura defeated China's Yu Yangyi.
The winner walked away with US$100,000, while Liem, who finished 23rd last year, pocketed $50,000. — VNS
