HA NOI (VNS) — Le Quang Liem and So Wesley of the United States had a draw in the first match of the third round of the FIDE World Chess Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan.
It was considered an advantage for the Vietnamese Grandmaster, who forced his world No 9 rival to share points after 49 steps.
The second-leg match will be held this evening as Liem, world No 52, takes the white pieces.
He is the only Vietnamese master at the tournament following his teammate Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son's disqualification after the second round, held earlier. — VNS
