HA NOI (VNS) — Vietnamese Grandmaster Le Quang Liem won his second match at the Millionaire Chess Open in Las Vegas yesterday.
Liem, who has an Elo rating of 2697, defeated Quintiliano Pinto Renato R of Brazil (Elo 2443) after 60 moves.
Earlier, Liem bested American Andrew Boekhoff (Elo 2312) after 25 moves in the first match.
With two wins, Liem, the No 6 seed earned two points to temporarily rank third.
Nakamura Hikaru and So Wesley of the US also gained two points but top Liem as they have a greater auxiliary index.
The event has prize money of US$1 million.
At last year's event, former world blitz champion Liem earned 5.5 points in nine matches, resulting in 23rd position. — VNS
