HANOI (VNS) — Phan Thi Lieu of Hat Gao Ngoc Troi won the first stage of the National Women's Cycling Tournament – the An Giang Television Cup yesterday.
Lieu finished the 65km stage from Tay Ninh City (Tay Ninh Province) to Cu Chi District (HCM City) in a time of 1hr 39.25min, reaching an average speed of 38.625km/h.
National team member Vo Thi Phuong Phi of Binh Duong Environment-Water Supply and Drainage came second, followed by Trinh Thi Bich Nhien of Imexpharm Dong Thap.
Today, cyclists will take part in the second stage from Cu Chi to Ben Tre City over 102km, the longest course of the tournament.
The annual event has lured 58 riders from 11 teams this year. They will compete over six stages for a prize of VND180 million (US$8,500) and other individual and team awards.
In other cycling news, the National Youth Cycling Championships wrapped up on Saturday, with the title going to An Giang who pocketed six gold medals.
Hosts Binh Duong came second and Dong Thap stood third.— VNS
