Monks hold the largest ever Buddhism prayer book on the Vu Lan festival as it is recognised by the Viet Nam Book of Records at Thien Chanh Pagoda in HCM City's Tan Phu District on Sunday. The 88-page book weighs 500kg and measures 2.3m in length, 1.4m in width and 0.37m in height. It is made of wood, cloth and paper and written in calligraphic style by Venerable Monk Thich Quang Tien, head monk of the pagoda and calligrapher Vo Duong.

The festival falls on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month. Its full name is "Vu Lan Bao Hieu" (Parents' Day) or "Xa Toi Vong Nhan" (Wandering Souls Day). — Photo nigioingaynay.com
