The Korean Cultural Centre will hold a contest to select a Vietnamese representative for the second International K-Pop Singing Competition in October.

HA NOI — The Korean Cultural Centre will hold a contest to select a Vietnamese representative for the second International K-Pop Singing Competition in October.

K-Pop or Korean pop, which has become phenomenally popular in East Asia, is an eclectic mix of musical genres.

The competition, the second of its kind, will be held in South Korea. The best Korean singers in the world have been invited to compete.

The Vietnamese heats will be held from August 4-10 in HCM City, Da Nang and Ha Noi.

The contest's winners will be announced on August 30 at Au Co Arts Centre in Ha Noi. The winners will be flown to South Korea for the finals.

Last year, Vietnamese band Tuxedo and Ao Dai won second prize. Bands from Kazakhstan and the Philippines shared first prize.

The contest attracted 21 bands from 16 countries and territories. - VNS
