Viet Nam are on the brink of missing out on the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) inaugural U22 Football Championships after suffering their second consecutive loss.
The side, coached by Lu Dinh Tuan, was defeated 1-3 by hosts Myanmar on Monday in Group G. Other countries in the group are Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea and Chinese Taipei.
Although captain Nguyen Van Quyet put Viet Nam in front in the 15th minute, Myanmar scored two goals in the first half and one goal in the second half to claim an emphatic victory.
The loss dims Viet Nam's chances of making it to the final rounds of an important Asian football competition. In order to do so, it has to win all the three remaining matches, a tough ask since the group's current leaders, South Korea, are a regional powerhouse.
