HA NOI (VNS)  — A ceramic mosaic featuring Ha Noi in springtime, measuring over 11m high and 11m wide, was completed in time to mark the opening of Lotte Center in Ha Noi on Monday.

The mosaic, located on the ninth floor, is a collection of millions of small ceramic tiles pieced together by a team of artists from Tan Ha Noi Art Company under the direction of Nguyen Thu Thuy.

Thuy, a noted artist herself, is particularly famous for her ceramic painting project decorating the dyke along Hong (Red) River in Ha Noi and a ceramic national flag on the Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands.

The project, chosen over four rivals in a design contest held last November by the Lotte Coralis Viet Nam Company, highlights both traditional and modern features of Ha Noi.

Women in ao dai (long dresses) are placed amongst contrasting architectures of older epochs like the Literature Temple, One-Pillar Pagoda and the Old Quarter, and modern buildings like the newest Lotte skyscraper.

On the 38th floor, a smaller ceramic mosaic by artist Nguyen Hoang Tung accompanies its dominating neighbour. — VNS
