Luy Lau ceramic wares displayed in France

As many as 300 ancient ceramic items from Luy Lau in the northern province of Bac Ninh will be put on display in Paris between January 13 and 15.

HA NOI (VNS) — As many as 300 ancient ceramic items from Luy Lau in the northern province of Bac Ninh will be put on display in Paris between January 13 and 15.

Artisan Nguyen Dang Vong, owner of the Luy Lau Ceramic and Porcelain enterprise, said he would bring his most archetypal products to the exhibition.

The enterprise, which was established in 2006, manufactures more than 10,000 products categorised into 10 different groups. The enterprise was registered under the Luy Lau Ceramic trademark in 2007. Its items have been exported to the United States, South Korea, Japan and Europe.

Vong has developed his products based on the glaze and decorative patterns of the traditional ceramic style typical of the Luy Lau locality, which was famed in the past as the Dau area in Thuan Thanh District. This particular ceramic style is some 2,000 years old.

Luy Lau ceramics are among the most ancient styles in Viet Nam. Luy Lau had been the name of a locality, which is now situated in the Thuan Thanh District of Bac Ninh Province. The area hosted one of the most ancient centres of economics, politics, culture and Buddhism in the country during the 2nd century BC. Remnants of the ancient citadel of Luy Lau can still be found in today's Thanh Khuong Commune in the district. — VNS
