LONDON — Ly Hoang Nam of Viet Nam has made history by winning the final of the boys' doubles event at Wimbledon yesterday in London.

Nam and his partner, India's Sumit Nagal, beat No 4 seeds Reilly Opelka of the US and Akira Santillan of Japan 7-6 6-4.

It's the first time a Vietnamese player has ever won a Grand Slam final, all be it a junior event.

Earlier in the semis, the No 8 seeds sent No 5 pair Miomir Kecmannover (Serbia) and Casper Ruud (Norway) home after a 7-6 (5), 3-6, 12-10 victory.

Nam will head to his next Grand Slam in the US next month. — VNS
