HÀ NỘI — More than 50 distinctive flower species from Hà Nội’s Mê Linh District will feature in the largest floral picture in northern Việt Nam during a flower festival that is taking place until December 29.

The second Mê Linh Flower Festival in 2024, themed Mê Linh Rực Rỡ Sắc Hoa (Mê Linh Dazzling with Flower Colours), will be held at the Mê Linh District Administrative Centre Square. Covering a total area of nearly 10,000sq.m, the square will feature eight decorative miniatures, over 100 commercial booths introducing local specialties, and 200 tons of fresh blossoms.

The flower species showcased at this year's festival are diverse, with most being meticulously cared for by flower growers in Mê Linh.  

During the four day festival, there will also be activities such as a contest for decorating 'flower bikes' made from recycled materials, a painting competition, a giant collage of flowers, an áo dài (Vietnamese traditional dress) fashion show and a trade promotion fair. 

Secretary of the Mê Linh District Party Committee Nguyễn Thanh Liêm said the flower festival, a large-scale cultural, tourism and trade promotion event, plays a significant role in boosting the consumption of flowers and agricultural products, enhancing the income and living standards of the local people. 

It also aims to establish the Mê Linh Flower Festival as a must-visit destination for tourists, while affirming the district’s spirit of innovation and aspiration to rise and break through in the 'new era of the nation's awakening', he added.

One of the festival's primary goals is to promote the traditional craft of flower cultivation in Mê Linh. The festival serves as a platform for artisans to demonstrate their craftsmanship, from flower arranging to creating intricate floral art pieces.

Mê Linh hosts 2,000ha of flowers, mostly roses, giving it the name of Hà Nội's capital of roses. As many as 350 million flowers each year from Mê Linh are sold throughout the country.

The first Mê Linh Flower Festival was held in 2022 and attracted over 100,000 visitors. — OVN
