CẦN THƠ — Eight provinces in the north-west and the Mekong Delta hope to fully tap their tourism potential and offer visitors good travel experiences, a conference held in Cần Thơ City on promoting trans-regional travel heard.

It was held at Ninh Kiều Park on Sunday as part of the “2023 Northwest Tourism Week” for north-western provinces to promote the region’s cultural identities and connect with the Mekong Delta.

The region comprising Hòa Bình, Sơn La, Điện Biên, Lai Châu, Lào Cai, Yên Bái, and Phú Thọ provinces sought to promote local tourism through natural wonders, culture and history.

It has enormous tourism potential with exquisite attractions such as the Fansipan mountain, Mù Căng Chải rice terraces, Pá Khoang Lake, Mường Phăng Sanctuary, Mai Châu Valley, and Mộc Châu Highlands.

Ethnic cuisine is another attraction, and includes unique dishes such as buffalo skin salad and smoked buffalo meat.

The region also attracts tourists through their long-standing historical and cultural heritages.

Nguyễn Thực Hiện, vice chairman of the Cần Thơ City People’s Committee, spoke about the area's many attractions.

The delta has 12 provinces and one city, with an ecological abundance comprising forests, biosphere reserves, national parks, sanctuaries, and land formations.

It is not only the country’s agriculture and aquaculture hub but also one of its main tourist attractions.

Visitors come here for culture and history, traditions, festivals, food, and intangible heritages such as the art of “Đờn ca tài tử” (Southern amateur music).

Tourism in the Mekong Delta has been seeing positive changes, with local businesses being able to provide high-quality products and services.

The two regions plan to develop tourism linkages to expand their markets.

The conference was also a great opportunity for investors in tourism.
