HCM CITY — Over 1 million people visited the Nguyen Hue Flower Street over the seven days that it opened for the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday, organisers announced at the closing ceremony of the annual event on Thursday night.

The closing ceremony, which included shows and performances of traditional music, Vietnamese classical theatre, circuses, and Flamenco music performed by city's artists and actors, also attracted tens of thousands of visitors to the HCM City downtown area in District 1.

Tran Hung Viet, general director of Saigontourists Holdings Co and head of the HCM City Tet Festival 2012 organising board, said the Nguyen Hue Flower Street received three visitors per second on average from January 20 to 26.

"The behavior of visitors to the flower festival showed the cultural values of a civilised and modern city," said Nguyen Thien Hoa, a visitor from District 8 to the flower street.

Tran Minh Quan, an overseas Vietnamese visitor from the US, said: "City residents have showed great civic sense by maintaining cleanliness and order on Nguyen Hue Flower Street." — VNS
