HA NOI (VNS) — Top Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh entered the quarter-finals of the 2015 Bahrain International Challenge in Isa Town, Bahrain on November 4.
Minh, the top seed in the men's singles event due to his 42nd spot in the world ranking, easily defeated Kaushal Dharmamer of India 21-11, 21-12 in the third round.
Earlier, the Olympian beat world number 362 Amrullo Bakhshullaev of Uzbekistan, 21-4, 21-7 in the second round. Minh also beat underdog Sanjay Jaimy of Bahrain, who is yet to earn a spot in the world ranking, 21-0, 21-2 in the first round.
The HCM City-born Minh will meet the number 11 seed Sameer Verma of India in the next round.
Also on November 4, another Vietnamese player Vu Thi Trang easily defeated Sarah Joy Barredo of the Philippines 21-7, 21-7 in the first round, but then lost to the number two seed Iris Wang of the United States 17-21, 18-21 in the second round.
The tournament will end on November 7. — VNS
