HA NOI (VNS) — Number one seed Nguyen Tien Minh advanced to the second round of the Chinese Taipei Grand Prix badminton tournament on October 14.

The Vietnamese player beat Yang Chih Hsun of the host country 21-16, 21-17 in a 34-minute match.

Minh will next meet Indonesian player Simon Santoso who beat Lee Hock Lai 21-10, 21-12.

Santoso has beaten Minh all four times they have met since 2006.

Another Vietnamese player Vu Thi Trang, the number five seed, will play her first match against Lyanny Alessandra Mainaky of Indonesia. — VNS
