HA NOI (VNS) — Top Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh moved into the quarter-finals of the Mexico Grand Prix this morning (December 18).
The Olympian defeated Canadian player Martin Giuffre 2-0 (21-12, 21-14) in 27 minutes in the third round.
Earlier in the tournament, Minh beat the No 4 seed and world number 30 Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand 21-19, 21-19 in the second round in 36 minutes.
In the quarter-final, world number 42 Minh will face Thailand's Pannawit Thongnuam.
Meanwhile, in the women's singles event, Vu Thi Trang lost to the No 7 seed and world No 18 Sayaka Sato of Japan 2-0 (13-21, 8-21) in the second round. – VNS
