HA NOI (VNS)– Top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh secured a berth in the quarter-finals of the Singapore Open after he beat Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand in the second round yesterday.
Olympian Minh beat the world No 22 2-1 (21-17, 21-5, 21-13) in a match lasting 52 minutes.
Today he is scheduled to meet Marc Zwiebler of Germany, who unexpectedly defeated seed No 1 Du Pengyu, in the quarter-finals.
The HCM City-born player bested Zwiebler in the previous four meets.
In the latest ranking of the Word Badminton Federation, Minh dropped one place to tenth. – VNS
