HCM CITY (VNS) — National hopeful Nguyen Tien Minh advanced to the third round of the Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open's men's singles yesterday in HCM City.
Minh, seeded No 7 here, won 22-20, 21-15 over Thai representative Kantawat Leelavechabutr in nearly an hour at the Nguyen Du Stadium.
Minh, the former world No 6, will next face No 10, Wei Feng Chong of Malaysia.
In their four previous meets, Minh won three and lost one.
In the women's singles, top Vietnamese female badminton player Vu Thi Trang lost to Ongbumrungphan Busanan of Thailand in the first round match.
The Thai player, world No 17 and the tournament's No 1 seed, beat Trang 21-9, 14-21, 21-18 in 58 minutes. — VNS
