HA NOI (VNS) — Nguyen Tien Minh, Viet Nam's No 1 and the world's top 10 badminton player, lost 0-2 to South Korea's world number 21 Son Wan Ho yesterday in his first match at the Maybank Malaysia Open 2014.
Minh lost 1-2 to Son in their last match at the 2013 Yonex Chinese Taipei Open.
On January 9, Minh edged out the ROK's Hwang Jong Soo 2-1 to compete in the quarterfinals of the Victor Korea Open 2014, which he lost 0-2 to world number two Chen Long of China.
In the women's matches at the Maybank Malaysia Open tournament, top Vietnamese female player Vu Thi Trang also lost in her first qualifying game against Malaysia's Yin Fun Lim.— VNS
