Nguyen Tien Minh defeated Wing Ki Wong of Hong Kong 2-1 in the final round of the US Open Prix Gold badminton title yesterday.

Olympian Minh lost to Wing 18-21 in the first set but beat him 21-17 in the second set and 21-18 in the third.

The match lasted one hour and 25 minutes.

The victory earned Minh a US$9,000 cash prize and 7,000 points to his world rankings.

The event is the highest tournament in the Grand Prix system of the International Badminton Federation.-VNS
