HCM CITY (VNS) — Viet Nam's star badminton player, Nguyen Tien Minh, was ousted from the Total Badminton World Federation World Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia yesterday.
Minh, world No 34, lost to world No 4 Kento Momota of Japan in the third round of the men's singles 21-15, 21-16. It only lasted 41 minutes, and was Minh's first loss to Momota after facing him four times.
Another Vietnamese representative, Vu Thi Trang, also failed in the second round on the women's side.
After the event, Minh and Trang will compete in the Yonex Sunrise Viet Nam Open 2015 which is scheduled to be held in HCM City on August 24. The tournament is endorsed by the Badminton World Federation and the Badminton Asia Confederation. — VNS
