The No 7 seed beat Malaysia's Daren Liew 21-10, 13-21, 21-11.
He will next play Kantawat Leelavechabutr of Thailand who beat qualifier Chun-Wei Chen of Chinese Taipei 21-19, 24-22 in an earlier game.
Nguyen Hoang Nam failed to advance after losing 21-10, 21-18 to No 5 seed B. Sai Praneeth of India.
In the women's singles qualifiers, Nguyen Thuy Linh also lost 18-21, 11-21 to South Korea's Kim Na-young.
Today, Viet Nam's top female shuttler Vu Thi Trang will start her title bid against Busanan Ongbumrungpan of Thailand.
