HA NOI (VNS) — Nguyen Tien Minh yesterday defeated South Korean Lee Dong-keun 21-13, 20-22, 21-15 in the first round of the Total Badminton World Federation World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The world No 34 paid his debt after losing 21-17, 16-21, 16-21 to Lee at the last year's All England tournament.
In the second round, Minh will play Indian Parupalli Kashyap, who is seeded No 10.
In the women's competition, Vu Thi Trang of Viet Nam won 21-10, 21-5 over Gabriel Grace of Nigeria in the first match.
She will meet No 6 seed Yihan Wang of China in the next round.
Wang, who received a bye to the second round, beat Trang 21-13, 21-11 when they met at the Singapore Open earlier this month. — VNS
