HA NOI (VNS) — The richly embroidered ao dai (traditional woman dress) worn by Vietnamese beauty Truong Thi May at this year's Miss Universe is among the top 5 of best national costumes, according to the Missosology, a pageant - related forum.

"It is richly embroidered with the fabric so classy and elegant and so royal. A real head turning costume," Missosology wrote.

Designed by celebrated designer Thuan Viet, the dress features sophisticated brocade patterns, ancient lotuses, and ornate hand-embroidered details. It has two principal colours - bronze yellow and dark red - and is ordained with Swarovski crystals. He chose to feature the lotus as a symbol of Vietnamese women.
