HCM CITY (VNS) — Overseas Vietnamese singers Huong Lan, Thai Chau and Duong Trieu Vu will perform in a music show tonight in HCM City to commemorate the late Y Van, one of Viet Nam's most talented contemporary composers.
The singers will perform before an expected audience of more than 1,200 at the Hoa Binh Theatre.
The show, Y Van – 60 Nam Cuoc Doi (Y Van – 60 Years of Life), will be televised live on Viet Nam Television's VTV9 and channels of local TV stations.
Highlights will include Long Me (Mother's Heart), Sai Gon and 60 Nam Cuoc Doi (60 Years of Life).
Vietnamese-American pop star Lan will perform Long Me, one of the composer's famous songs. The work was written in 1952 and has been performed by many singers of different generations.
Her colleagues, Chau and Vu, will sing romantic ballads like Ao Anh (Illusion) and Nguoi Em Sau Mong (Sad Girl).
Born Tran Tan Hau in 1933 in Ha Noi, Van was recognised as a pioneer who reformed Vietnamese music by composing songs in the disco, twist and cha cha cha styles.
He died in 1992 in HCM City.
The show Y Van- 60 Nam Cuoc Doi will start at 8pm at the Hoa Binh Theatre, 240 Ba Thang Hai Street, District 10. — VNS
