HCM CITY (VNS) — A music night themed
Thap Sang Uoc Mo (To Light up a Dream) at the Youth Cultural House on Saturday will raise funds for scholarships for poor and ethnic minority students with good academic records.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Vu A Dinh Scholarsip Fund run by the Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
Since 1999, the Vu A Dinh scholarship fund has given nearly 60,000 scholarships to ethnic minority students nationwide.
The fund has also helped to build nine schools, including two primary schools in Truong Sa Lon and Sinh Ton islands which belong to the Truong Sa archipelago, as well as dozens of bridges and 50 houses for the poor.
Vu A Dinh Fund's organisers have signed agreements with several schools and enterprises to develop projects such as the Uom Mam Tuong Lai (Future Incubator) and Chap Canh Uoc Mo (Dream Chasing), worth nearly VND28 billion (US$1.3 million).
The Uom Mam Tuong Lai project has sponsored 198 ethnic students with a total fund of VND90 billion ($4.2 million) from 2009-22. Students at boarding schools will receive free accommodations and tuition. — VNS
