HÀ NỘI —Many renowned singers will perform at a special musical programme to support those affected by Typhoon Yagi.

The programme, titled "Hà Nội – Những Tháng Năm..." (Hà Nội – The Months and Years…), organised by the Vietnam Contemporary Arts Theatre, will take place at the Hanoi Opera House on September 20.

Artist and director Quỳnh Trang shared that the event aims to send a message of love and solidarity through the power of music. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to help those in the north who are suffering the severe impacts of the typhoon.

The special concert will be divided into three parts: Hà Nội – Ngày Ấy (Hà Nội – Those Days), Hà Nội – Những Thời Khắc Hào Hùng (Hà Nội – Heroic Moments), and Hà Nội Hôm Nay (Hà Nội Today). According to Trang, this emotional musical journey will guide the audience from the stirring resistance-era melodies to the sweet and nostalgic songs celebrating the capital’s timeless beauty.

The programme will feature many distinguished artists, including People's Artist Thanh Lam, People's Artist Mai Hoa, Meritorious Artist Việt Hoàn, and singers Anh Thơ, along with performances by the Phương Nam (Southern), Thời Gian (Time), and Huyền Trung bands.

One of the programme’s highlights is Hướng Về Hà Nội (Toward Hà Nội), regarded as one of the most lyrical songs written about the city. With its poetic words and melodies, the song captures the elegance and spirit of Hà Nội’s people. It was composed by musician Hoàng Dương in just one night while he was in evacuation on the outskirts of the city, during the period between late 1953 and early 1954, when Hà Nội was yet to be liberated.

The song has touched the hearts of both Hanoians and visitors for decades and will be performed by the renowned Vietnamese diva Thanh Lam.

"As a native of this land with a thousand years of history, every time I sing this song on stage, I strive to channel my emotions to the audience,” Lam shared. “I want everyone to feel Hà Nội’s spirit and beauty through the music."

Another iconic song about Hà Nội, Người Hà Nội (Hanoians), has been a beloved anthem for 70 years, reflecting the city’s strength and resolve during the fight for independence, as well as its ongoing efforts to build peace. The song was inspired by the first night of resistance on December 19, 1946, along the banks of the Nhuệ River. Witnessing Hà Nội engulfed in smoke and fire, Hanoian songwriter Nguyễn Đình Thi composed a timeless masterpiece that continues to resonate today.

Singer Viết Danh, who will perform Người Hà Nội at the event, expressed his honour at being part of the programme. “This song celebrates Hà Nội and its significant historical milestones during the resistance against the French. Through my performance, I aim to bring to life the resilience of our thousand-year-old cultural capital in the audience’s minds,” he said. VNS
