HA NOI (VNS)—Vietnamese tennis hopeful Ly Hoang Nam pulled off a stunning two-nil win over China's No 1 player Zheng Weiqiang at the China Junior 16 tennis tournament in Beijing.
Nam, 16, came from a 4-1 down to level 4-4 and then claimed the first set at 7-5. The second was tight at the beginning until 3-3 when Nam broke seventh game to lead 4-3 and went on to clinch the second set 6-3.
The victory indicates the progress Nam has made. It also secured him a place in the semi-finals, where he faces Arturs Lazdins of Latvia.
Last week, Nam, who is 100 places behind Zheng in the boys' ranking list, lost to his opponent 2-0 in another junior tennis tournament in Xiamen, China. – VNS
