HA NOI (VNS) — More than 100 athletes took part in the National Fencing Tournament which began yesterday in Ha Noi.
The host Ha Noi sent the largest number of athletes to the event with 31, followed by Hai Phong with 28 and HCM City with 17. The tournament will end on November 16
Athletes are competing in women's and men's individual and team categories.
The event aims to select the best athletes to compete in international competitions next year.
Fencing is a fledgling sport event in Viet Nam. However, Nguyen Thi Le Dung won gold medals in Southeast Asian Games in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2011 and 2015 in the women's sabre.
In the men's epee, Nguyen Tien Nhat also earned a ticket to compete in the 2013 Olympics and bagged two bronzes at the Asian Games last year. — VNS
