BÀ RỊA - VŨNG TÀU — Some 120 elite athletes from 12 clubs across the country are competing at the 2025 national triathlon clubs championship in Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu Province from until June 17 to 24.
The championship officially kicked off on June 17 at the Bàu Thành Historical and Cultural Site in Long Điền District. The event is co-organised by the province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Việt Nam Sports Administration under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Việt Nam Triathlon Federation.
The athletes will compete in the challenging multi-discipline sport of triathlon, which combines swimming, cycling, and running.
Triathlon is widely recognised as a demanding sport that tests both physical endurance and mental resilience.
Beyond its competitive edge, it promotes a healthy, active lifestyle and encourages individuals to push their limits and overcome personal challenges.
Nguyễn Thu Phương, general secretary of the Việt Nam Triathlon Federation and deputy head of the event’s organising committee, said Triathlon has gained increasing popularity in Việt Nam in recent years.
“Triathlon is not just a test of physical fitness but a battle of willpower, persistence, and adaptability in all conditions.”
This year’s championship aims to foster the professional development of the sport, provide a competitive platform for athletes, and identify new talents to elevate Việt Nam’s triathlon scene both regionally and internationally, she said.
It features two divisions, including the senior championship for athletes over 18 and the youth championship for those under 18.
The youth division includes nine events: men’s and women’s individual sprint triathlon, mixed relay triathlon, men’s and women’s individual sprint duathlon, mixed relay duathlon, men’s and women’s aquathlon, and mixed relay aquathlon.
The senior division includes four events: men’s and women’s individual sprint duathlon and men’s and women’s aquathlon.
On the opening day, athletes began their journey through the grueling sprint triathlon course.
The tournament is expected to promote the sport and leave a lasting impression on athletes and fans alike. — VNS
