HA NOI (VNS) – Nguyen Hoang Ngan, the Vietnamese queen of kata (performance), won a gold medal at the Karate1 Premier League in Istanbul, Turkey last Saturday.
The former world champion regained her status by defeating Terryana D'Onofrio of Italy in the individual female seniors' final match of the World Karate Federation-sponsored tournament.
She had to overcome the challenge of five other athletes to enter the finals and notch her second win in the league. The first came during her stint at the Karate1 Premier League in Germany in 2012.
With Ngan's recent victory, Viet Nam placed seventh overall in the tournament, which the hosts topped with four gold medals and a silver medal. – VNS
