HCM CITY (VNS)— Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) cruised past hosts Dong Tam Long An (DTLA) 3-1 yesterday to go six points clear at the top of the Eximbank V-League 2013 national football championship.
The victory also means SLNA, one of the strongest contenders for the title, remains unbeaten after six rounds. The team won five rounds and drew one to have 16 points in total.
Trinidad and Tobago striker Hughtun Hector headed home Nguyen Phi Son's cross to open the score for SLNA in the 21st minute. Substitute Que Ngoc Hai doubled the lead for the leaders as he headed home captain Nguyen Trong Hoang's corner in the 81st minute.
DTLA pulled back one goal six minutes from the end as striker Nguyen Viet Thang beat SLNA's goalkeeper Tran Nguyen Manh with an angled shot inside the box, but Hoang ensured SLNA a successful penalty in the last minute of the regular time.
In the other match yesterday, Thanh Hoa reached a 2-2 draw with Hai Phong to remain in seventh place with nine points. Hai Phong climbed to third place with 10 points.
Binh Duong's first point
Becamex Binh Duong finally got their first point of this V-League season after they managed a 2-2 away draw against Vissai Ninh Binh in a sixth-round match on Saturday.
Striker Nguyen Anh Duc and substitute Trinh Quang Vinh were the scorers for Binh Duong while naturalised midfielder Dinh Van Ta and striker Timothy Anjembe hit the targets for the home team.
Duc scored the opener just two minutes into the game.
But Ninh Binh did not lose their head and calmly turned the game in their favour. Ta put the game level with an accurate free kick and Anjembe stroked a fine curling kick beyond Binh Duong's Dang Dinh Duc to put the home team ahead.
The home team paid the price for a lapse of concentration as Vinh tapped in the equaliser from close range in the last minute of the regular time.
In the other match of the day, Nigerian striker Ganiyu Bolaji Oseni scored one goal in each half to help home team Hoang Anh Gia Lai overcome Kien Giang 2-1.
In early matches on Friday, Ugandan striker Henry Kiseka scored a brace to pull off the shock of the round as Dong Nai recorded a 3-1 victory over Xuan Thanh Sai Gon.
