NHA TRANG (VNS) — More than 25,000 people including thousands of international tourists enjoyed a stunning art performance on Saturday night to kick off the Nha Trang Beach Festival 2015.
The biennial festival aims to promote tourism in Khanh Hoa Province, especially the Nha Trang Bay – one of the world's 30 most beautiful bays.
Focused on the theme Blue Sea Forever, the performance highlighted the rich culture of the Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa region, and told the story of the tough lives of fishermen there who protect the marine environment and national sovereignty.
Nearly 200 dancers and more than 700 amateur performers participated in the 90-minute performance.
The night also featured Vietnamese stars such as My Tam, Dan Truong, Kasim Hoang Vu, Ha Anh Tuan and Duc Tuan.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh said the event highlighted the city and region's tourism potential and unique local cultural features.
The opening ceremony was concluded with a colourful fireworks display.
The four-day festival features several sports and cultural activities including a sailing competition, swimwear fashion show, vintage Vespa scooter drive and a food festival.
Tourists can also visit an exhibition entitled: Spratly and Paracel Archipelagos – Historical and Legal Evidence, showcasing old maps and valuable documents. The objects on display prove that the two archipelagos belong to Viet Nam.
In addition, a photo exhibition with the theme: The Country's Sea and Islands is expected to draw visitors.
During the festival, local authorities will also call on visitors to raise their awareness of the marine environment and the protection of natural resources. — VNS
